Safety Topics takes a moment for those who lost loved ones in 2013

It is likely that we will see somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000 workplace fatalities in 2013 once all the reports are in.  Many families will have a permanently empty place at the table and it will be a tough Christmas to celebrate.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those fatally injured in 2013.

Let’s reset the safety clock and shoot for Zero again in 2014.  I will be speaking in January with several organizations to kick-off the year.  For those of you that will not have a kick-off, have your own!  Don’t wait for your organization to set the goal, make zero injuries your personal target for 2014.  Plan your work for zero injuries, work the plan so that you hit zero, and make changes throughout the task or day to hit zero.  When you finish the task or day ask yourself, “Did I get hurt?” the answer will likely be no.  Celebrate it!  Remember the real goal is Nobody Gets Hurt.

As for me, I am excited about the work I have lined up with clients for 2014 and look forward to meeting and working with new clients.  One of the highlights for 2014 is the Professional Development Conference of the St. Louis ASSE.  I will be keynoting and for a limited few, I will be conducting my Hazard Recognition and Control Workshop March 3rd, 2014.  I will keep you posted on up coming opportunities to attend this workshop as an open enrollment in 2014, or you can schedule a pilot for your location.

Look for my next safety blog in 2014.  For now I would like to wish you a Merry Christmas from Dr. Deb Potter and myself along with our team for 2014, Nona, Becky, Stan, Mark, and Jan.
