Safety for Kids: Downed Power Line

Take the time to share the hazard of downed power lines with kids.  This hazard exists in neighborhoods where overhead power lines feed electricity to homes and businesses.  Many people think that downed power lines spark and snap throwing sparks like you see in movies.  In real life power lines tend to lie on the ground and do nothing.  Not only should people not touch the lines, KEEP BACK!  You can be severely injured by walking within a few feet of a live wire lying on the ground.

Kids should be told to back away and find an adult to tell about the hazard so that it can be reported to the local electric utility company.

Safety for kids means helping them to understand the hazards that can hurt them
